US Government Investment in Energy R&D Oustripped by China

The United States still significantly outdoes China in terms of energy innovation.  However, in recent years China has rapidly scaled up government investment into energy science and technology. 

This rate of investment increase has led to a widening gap with US public investment.

Whether and how this increase in public investment results in incremental share of global energy innovation is not clear or necessarily linear.
